The last few weeks in Greece have seen us working our little butts off, getting Summertime finished before heading back to the UK. Consequently we set off to drive back in a a completely knackered state.
The ferry journey north to Venice was a 24 hour sleep fest for us and arriving in Venice is brilliant, it's a slow meander up the channel between mud banks, islands and finally the old city of Venice is laid out before you - beautiful. It was early morning when we arrived, so haven't taken any piccies, but will do when we do the return journey to Greece.
Somewhat refreshed we set off towards Switzerland. Through Italy it was cloudy and dull, through Switzerland it persisted it down across the entire country and was still raining when we arrived in Germany.
Next morning more northness up through France with showers and occassional sunshine, but by the time we arrived in the old town of Arras where we stayed another night, it was absolutely bitterly cold. We were sure it was going to snow!! When we left Greece, temperatures were mid 20's. We've been plunged into winter again - a shock to the system.
We used the Euro tunnel for this journey, a new experience for me. Well I have to say checking in is seriously cool. As you drive up to the self check-in a camera recognises your numberplate and before you can say 'abracadabra' all your details are up on the screen. You've got a choice of waiting for your booked slot or it tells you when an earlier slot is within the same fare bracket. Impressive.
We're settled back here at Hewenden for the next week before heading downunder and it's bloody cold!!! Now catching up on shopping, eating curry and time with friends - the best bit of being back.
